Today I’m revisiting some of my favorite travel posts with everyone’s favorite word: FOOD — and how eating healthy while traveling has shaped so many of those experiences. Food has always been woven into our adventures — from simple snacks on the trail to homemade meals shared in tiny cabins, each bite tells part of the story. This post highlights the comfort meals before big hikes, the creative ways we fuel up on the road, and the cozy little moments over coffee or cocoa that make a trip unforgettable. Think of it as a scrapbook of flavors, where every meal is tied to a memory.

Healthy Eating While Traveling By Location
Parks, Arizona – During our cozy stay in Parks, Arizona before the Havasupai Falls hike, food played a central role in preparing both body and mind for the journey ahead. We cooked hearty, homemade meals in the tiny home kitchen, enjoyed simple snacks like fresh apples, and stocked up on groceries to fuel the days to come. Between sipping hot cocoa at sunset and sharing a nourishing steak-and-veggie dinner, these moments reminded us how good food isn’t just about flavor — it’s about grounding, recovery, and building the energy needed for the adventures that follow.
Rachel Carson Trail (Ice Rink to North Park Lake Section) – This hike wasn’t just about miles on the trail — it also highlighted how food fuels the journey. We kicked off the morning with a big homemade breakfast (find out what I made in the post!), added a protein shake for extra energy, and even grabbed a milkshake from Millie’s as motivation to finish the loop around North Park Lake. (PS, did you know that if you eat while moving, you can burn that glucose off right away??). It was the perfect reminder that the right mix of meals, snacks, and small indulgences can make even the toughest hikes more enjoyable.
What We Packed for Cooper’s Rock State Park – On our Coopers Rock camping trip, we kept food simple with a cooler for cold items, a tote for snacks and cookware, and our new portable grill for easy meals. It worked well for a quick weekend, but we also learned what we’ll bring next time — things like lightweight camping plates, a pop-up tent for rainy meals, and a tent organizer to cut down on chaos.

Healthy Food Recipes
Homemade Salsa – One of the best kitchen wins from our small space garden this season has been homemade salsa — made with nearly 90% homegrown ingredients. Fresh tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers came straight from our planters and into the jar, turning a simple tamale dinner into something special. This batch reminded me why I love small harvests: they’re manageable, flavorful, and give us the chance to create meals that taste like summer in every bite.
Healthy Hacks and Delicious Smoothies – Healthy eating isn’t just about cutting back — sometimes it’s about adding in the right fuel. In this post, I share my favorite metabolism-boosting smoothie recipe, plus a few simple hacks I’ve learned about eating more (not less) to actually feel better and support weight loss. It’s all about finding balance, enjoying nourishing foods, and discovering how small changes can make a big difference in everyday energy.
