Before Habitual Balance became a mix of travel stories, introspection, and a quest for everyday joy, it started with a few simple reflections written from the heart and maybe over one too many cups of coffee. 2023 was the year it all began. I had a desire to write about slowing down, finding balance, and learning to appreciate the small moments. Here’s a look back at the posts that kicked off the journey from fluffy clouds to fall gardens to finding light in burnout.
Practicing Gratitude in 2023
This was one of my first posts, and it’s as simple as it sounds learning to be grateful for the little things, like the fluffy clouds drifting by or the warmth of your morning mug. Gratitude doesn’t have to be profound or perfectly practiced; it’s about pausing long enough to notice what’s already good.
Acknowledging Burnout & Learning Where To Find The Lightbulbs
This one started with me listening to a Matthew McConaughey audiobook (as one does) and somehow spiraled into a full-on self-check about burnout. I was tired mentally, emotionally, creatively but also curious about what “lightbulbs” I needed to screw back in to feel like myself again.
Spoiler: rest and perspective help.

Developing Routines & What Is Sleep Hygiene
We all say we value sleep… but do we, really? In this post, I dove into the idea of “sleep hygiene” which sounds clinical but is basically about creating a bedtime routine your brain actually likes. It’s about slowing down, ditching screens, and giving yourself permission to rest.

How Gardening Is Good For Your Soul
My first foray into gardening content and the start of what would become a mini series. I talked about why gardening feels like therapy for your hands and your head, plus how to get started even if your thumb isn’t green yet. I also talked about what “cole crops” are and no they’re not about people named Cole.

Fall Into New Crops For Your Garden
Part two of the gardening series! I got deeper into fall planting and shared resources for when and how to plant in your area. There’s something grounding (pun intended) about digging in the dirt as the weather cools a little reminder that slowing down can be productive too.

The Role of Self Reflection in Personal Growth
Posted on Halloween, this post explored what happens when you take a hard, honest look at yourself and how self-reflection can be both spooky and healing. I talked about how my accountability partner helped me stay grounded through some tough moments, and why reflection isn’t just for year-end recaps.

Habitual Balance Roots
Looking back on these early posts makes me smile. They were written from a place of curiosity, not expertise just me figuring things out and sharing as I went. If you’ve been around since the beginning, thank you for reading, reflecting, and growing with me. And if you’re new here welcome to where it all started.
